2022 Girls’ High School Runners Up

Milwaukee, WI–Hamilton continued their impressive performance in group play at the Lakefront 7s tournament, going undefeated again this year and winning their 10th-straight group play match dating back to 2018. They are 11-1 historically, losing only to a “Waukesha” team featuring players from CMH (0-19 in 2018). This year’s tournament marked the second time that Hamilton advanced to the finals, but they fell to Sparta (MI) 0-50.

Hamilton was short a number of starters and had a short bench due to a number of players attending school trips to Europe. That eventually caught up to them in the finals. But Hamilton hasn’t historically been dominant in pool play, going 2-3 since 2018. But all of their losses have come against large club or select side teams, which are hard to compete against as a single school.

Hamilton opened the day by defeating Eagan (MN) 28-5, Chiefs (IL) 43-7, and Chargers (OH) 19-5. They defeated Badger Selects Academy 21-15 in a rematch of the 2021 Lakefront 7s finals to advance to the championship game.

Hamilton’s alumni team as made their return with one of their best performances in the Super Social bracket. The team also had a small bench, but were leading Wisconsin Womens Rugby by multiple tries at the halftime of their first game, but an injury to Captain Morgan Price took the wind out of the team’s sails, and they let WWRFC fight their way back to a 17-24 win. Hamilton was able to regroup and win their last two games against the Deathicorns (IL) 12-10 and Freeborn Eagles (MN) 28-0. It was the most wins in alumni history and the first time the alumni advanced to the knockout rounds. They were defeated in the semi-finals, losing 0-39 to the eventual tournament champions Milwaukee Scylla.

Hamilton added two players and two builders to their hall of fame. Madi Martinez ’21 and Alex Werra ’19 were added as players, and coach Amanda “Snooki” Huber and Team Rehab–Menomonee Falls were added as builders.
