Milwaukee, WI–Green Bay was playing in their first season as a team, and they played a tough game, but Hamilton, celebrating their 5th anniversay as a team, was too much for the young side, handedly winning, 46-10, the WGR third place trophy in 15s rugby for the second time in three seasons.
The teams battled a bit before Hamilton was able to put in the first try with a score by senior Norah Miller. The score was a fitting end to her four-year career, as Miller scored her first try on this field in a JV game at the 2018 state tournament against a team led by her current coach, Katie McNeil.
Jasia Torres, Ronny Reudinger, Rachel Rank (2), Grace Strelow (2), and Ayana Phelps also scored in the game.
Meghan Rank added three conversions. Rank finished the season converting 23/39 kicks (59%), good for a team record previously held by Alex Werra, 11/30 (37%). Her 51 points this season was also a team record.
Phelps’ try gave her the record for most tries in a season with seven. The record was previous held by Morgan Price (6), and that record was also tied by Rachel Rank and Ruedinger in this game.
In her first season as head coach, Coach McNeil tied a team record for wins in a season (4) and became the team’s second head coach (Holloway) to lead the Chargers to a third place finish in 15s rugby.
Hamilton defeated Stevens Point 52-5 the last time the Chargers played in the state’s third place game, back in 2018.
